While hunting for insects in the garden, this moth came crawling from the shrubbery on the ground. It is the Large yellow underwing (Noctua pronuba) from the Owlet moth (Noctuidae) family ^[1].

At first sight I didn’t exactly recognize the animal because it’s wings were still under developed. The moth had just crawled out from its cocoon and still needs to pump and dry its wings.

The moth is rather large and has a length of ~3cm. It is recognizable by the black striped spots near the edge of its front wings and the articulated palps ^[1].
