2022-VII-08

Two Ancistrocerus gazella [1] wasps hunted around Salvia plants. The flowers turned out to be inhabited by caterpillars of the Double-striped pug (Gymnoscelis rufifasciata). One of the caterpillars relocated after it was not discovered during inspection by the wasp. However on a different plant she did manage to catch a specimen. The larva was stung and pulled out from between the flowers by the jaws. After a short break on a leaf a bit further away she took of with her prey. The caterpillar was still small but was taken anyway, contrary to another observation concerning the same two species.
