End of July I still found caterpillars in the dried up garden, among others this Small white (Pieris rapae) [1] on the last remaining somewhat green leaves of the Garlic mustard (Alliara petiolata).

The caterpillars of the small white can be identified based on [2]:

  • a green body with small black specks
  • rather dense short hairs covering the body
  • a yellow back stripe over the length of the body
  • black lined spiracles on the sides
