A remarkable scene. In what seemed a last deed of defiance, this Jet ant (Lasius fuliginosus) [1] had bitten the spider’s leg and died in that position. The spider was clearly aware of the troublesome load she carried, keeping the leg stretched during walking. These ants have a stinging bite, something we need to keep in mind walking on the garden path along the overhanging branches with aphid milking clusters. If the spider now has to deal with this continuously, that won’t be fun.
