Symmorphus bifasciatus♀︎

Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel)

Last update: 16 July 2023

LOCATION: Krimpen aan den IJssel, garden

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgar) is a very good nectar source for wasps and other insects. Those foragers attract predators as well; several species of spiders hide in the umbels.
This female Symmorphus biofasciatus [1] probably didn’t even see her assailant coming.

The garden collection has become her final resting place.
