Melitta nigricans [1] bees are active again on the Purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicari). Last year the species visited the garden for the first time. This year their numbers have increased which might be related to the yearly expansion of the plant and the resulting increase in flowers.
The bees forage quickly and remain shortly on a flower before moving to the next which makes them difficult to photograph. Fortunately this male took its time just a little longer.
