This overwinterer had found a tricky open spot on a tree trunk to wander about on. It is the caterpillar of the Dewick’s plusia (Macdunnoughia Confusa) moth (see confirmation Rayan Majoor) [1,2,3]. A very nice looking animal that I had not seen before, a new garden species.
