When starting the garden project I had some species in mind that I really would like to see in the garden. One of those was the Orange tip (Anthocharis cardamines).
Every spring this butterfly is present in an area that 1 to 2 kilometres away from the garden, see also this post.
In order to lure the butterfly to the garden I had sown Mustard garlic (Alliara petiolata) with alternating success as the plant quickly dies in drought but last year it did well and so this year the plant has spread throughout the garden.
So past weekend I was chilling in the garden as suddenly an unmistakable butterfly comes flying in, and for sure a small male of the Orange tip!
He immediately started to inspect all clusters of Mustard garlic plants remaining at high velocity and within moments flies out of the garden.
While I’m explaining to my wife minutes later about the goal and what just visited he suddenly reappears and sits down for a drink on a Mustard garden plant.
Mission accomplished! Next goal: an egg laying female followed by larvae!! 🤞🏻😂
