The Apple ermine (Yponomeuta malinellus) moth is a permanent inhabitant of the garden. Every year a new generation eats its way to adulthood in the appletree.
The caterpillars create webs around leaves in which they reside and forage through parts the tree, eating the treeleaves. When its time to puppate they gather in a spot an start spinning their cocoons.

One of those nest had fallen out the tree with a under developed apple and it seemed fun to me to make it a breeding sample and monitor the last stage of development up close.

The nest contained also a caterpillar that did not make it to the end.
