Unknown

LOCATION: Krimpen aan den IJssel, garden

OBSERVATION:
2019-VI-16

I found this tiny, somewhat bizarre looking creature in the morning roaming on a stick. It is a larva from the genus Scymnus, a ladybird beetle (Coccinellidae).

Scymnus sp., 4th instar larva

It is small, I estimate 3 – 5 mm. The adult that will emerge from it is also very small.

The white woolly structures are wax excretions.

It is the first time I see this genus in the garden and I’ll be on the lookout for the adults.
